Every year in March, the United States celebrates Women's History Month to honor the achievements and contributions of women throughout history. The roots of Women's History Month can be traced back to the early 1900s when a few states began recognizing "Women's History Week." California held the first Women's History Week in 1978. Later that year, President Jimmy Carter declared the week of March 8th National Women's History Week.
As Women's History Week gained momentum, more organizations and businesses began to take notice of the movement and participate in their own ways. This led to greater recognition of the importance of honoring and celebrating the accomplishments of women, past and present. Over time, Women's History Week evolved into Women's History Month.
